1 For Me, 1 For You- Solid Crochet Lattice Block

Help me help local communities by creating blocks for Warm Up America, by making 1 block for yourself and 1 for a community project with this free pattern, so 1 your Me and 1 for You. This block, Solid Crochet Lattice, will help build your skills and looks great. I just ask that make one for donation.

Donations can be made to Warm Up America as a nation wide organization. They encourage local donations, but will also except donations to be sent to their office so that blocks can be assembled and then blankets can be donated through the United States.

Even if you do not want to participate with Warm Up America, please consider creating blocks, or blankets for your local community. There are various places in every community that accept donations.

This block uses 2 double crochet stitches worked together, as they are in a decrease, but over a space of stitches and rows below the working row (utilizing a front post stitch). This creates a raised texture to the fabric that has a trellis like effect.

This stitch pattern reminds me of fancy pastry techniques, but maybe that is because I have caught many baking shows as of late.

Gauge

Materials

Medium weigh yarn, two colors (A), (B)
I/9/5.50 mm crochet hook

Special Stitches

Front Post Double Crochet 2 Together (fpdc2tog): Yo, insert hook around indicated stitch inserting from the front to back of post, returning hook from back to front of fabric , yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2, yo, insert hook into next indicated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 3 loops on hook.

Solid Lattice Block

With Color A, ch 24

Row 1: Sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. -23 sc

We repeat a simple stitch a bit…

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st across, change to color B, turn.

Focus on something different…

Row 4: Ch 1, back loop single crochet (blsc) in next 2 sts, [working around posts of stitches in Row 1 fpdc2tog over post 1 stitch behind working loop, skip 1 post and complete stitch around next post, blsc in next 2 sts,] repeat 7 times, change to color A, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, working in the unused loops 2 rows below dc in next 2 sts, [hdc in next st, working in unused loops 2 rows below dc in next 2 sts] repeat 7 times, change to color B, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, blsc in same st, fpdc around fpdc2tog 2 rows below, blsc in next 2 sts, [fpdc2tog around fpdc2tog 2 rows below, blsc in next 2 sts] 6 times, fpdc around fpdc2tog 2 rows below, sl st to last st, change to color A, turn.

Have you noticed the bit of pattern…all odd rows worked in color A and making a back ground…

Rows 10-24: Rep Rows 6-9.

Edging

Rnd 1: Join with B to any corner, working around edges of block, sc evenly working 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off. Weave in ends

Garden Block

This block features color change, that does not require you to break the yarn. You can carry the yarn up the edge, as the color changes every row, and then finish the sides with edging.

I was inspired to create this block due to my lack of a green thumb. I try, and I think this season will be different. Yet it always ends the same…with a bunch of brown where I was expecting green.

This block lets me enjoy a little row of crocheted flowers.

Materials

Medium weigh yarn, three colors (A), (B), (C)

K/10 1/2 /6.50mm crochet hook

Special Stitches

Flower Bobble (FB): [Yo, insert hook in indicated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] 3 times, pull through all 4 loops on hook, ch 1, [Yo, insert hook in indicated stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops] 3 times, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Long Loop Double Crochet (LLdc): Work as a regular double crochet, however the placement if the first Yo and insert hook is worked two rows below working row, Yo, pull loop up to height o working row, and complete double crochet.

Block Pattern

Ch 25

Row 1: With (A), dc in fourth ch from hook, dc in each ch across, change to (B), turn. -23dc

Row 2: Ch 2, sk 1, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in next st, [sk 2, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in next st] rep 6 times, sk 1, hdc in last st, change to (C) turn. -7 (hdc, ch 1, hdc)

Row 3: Ch 2, FB in each ch-1 sp across, hdc in last st, change to (A) turn. -7FB

Linked Crochet Stitches

Linked stitches create a row without open spaces between the stitches, the stitches stand together and are interlinked with one another. It creates a distinctive line across the right side of the row and a uniquely textured wrong side of the row. This is a create way to create a solid fabric even with tall stitches.

If you have experience with Tunisian crochet you may see some similarities. As with Tunisian Simple Stitch, you insert the hook and pull up a loop, and then work them back off to one loop.

Bricks Block

Gauge: 7”x 9” rectangle

Materials

Medium weight yarn
K/10 1/2 /6.5 mm crochet hook

Notes

When changing bricks you do not turn the fabric like a page of a book, instead you turn it to the side and work on another side of the square.

First Brick

Row 1: Ch 6, sc in 2^nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. -5sc

The Basket Weave Stitch

Utilizing stitch placement is all that makes this pattern appear. It is essentially only a double crochet stitch, however it is worked around the body or post of the stitch a row below. There are two different stitches, the back post and the front post.

Post stitches can be worked with any stitch type, and I describe below how to work the location. Check out more information about stitch locations here.

Back Post Locations

The back post pushes the post away from the fabric facing. This is done by inserting the hook from the back side of the fabric to the front, between the “post” or “body” of the next stitch to be worked. Then push the hook from the front to the back of the fabric on the other side of the “post” or “body”. I have found this easier to view by shifting the fabric a bit and looking down at the top of the stitches, as I can see the body being pushed backward.

Front Post Location

The front post is often easier to work, and pushes the post toward the front of the fabric. This is done by inserting the hook from the front to the back of the fabric between the “post” or “body” of the next stitch to be worked. Then re-insert the back of the fabric to the front of the fabric on the other side of the “post” or “body”.

Medium weight yarn, in 3 colors MC (main color), CC1, CC2

K/10 ½/ 6.5mm hook

Notes

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): Yo, insert hook from back to front and then to back again around post of stitch, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] twice.

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): Yo, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yo, pull up a loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] twice.

Since this Block uses three colors, instead of cutting the yarn, carry it along the side of the Block. If you need tips on this check it out here.

Front post double crochets are easily seen, the back post double crochets show a stripe of color in the row below and look like it is behind the row below.
